Custom Bat Mitzvah Scrapbooks for Twins!

Wow - these books have been my sole existence for the past 4 days, but at long last they are done!!!  Woo hoo!! I love when clients come to me with a theme and color scheme that is out of the ordinary for me.  In this case it was the event - a Bat Mitzvah (which I have never experienced), the color scheme (Midnight Blue and Purple) and the overall event theme which was "Please Don't Stop the Music" - all of which I have never executed before. This project was like fitting together puzzle pieces, both challenging and rewarding at the same time.  When I finish a project like this, I look at my work and smile - it makes me so happy to know that these are gifts for two girls who are celebrating a very important moment in their lives - and a piece of the happiness and celebration was handmade by me.

Some of these pictures are a little overexposed.  I fixed them as best I could, but had a very hard time finding good lighting today.

I can't wait to deliver them tomorrow!  I hope the twins enjoy them as much as I do!!

Feature (yay!), and more importantly, an update

Imagine my surprise this morning when I saw that my craft room desk had been featured on Tatertots & Jello!!  As soon as I saw that I called hubby to tell him and thank him again for the great workspace he made for me.  A few people have contacted me for the instructions on how to make the desk - and it was then that I realized that I never linked back and gave credit to the amazing blogger, Jenny from Anything Pretty, whom first posted these instructions.  I wrote that craft desk post a few months ago, and meant to go back and give credit to her.  When I first started blogging, I wasn't sure if you needed permission to post a blog name before you actually mentioned it.  Sorry Jenny - this should have come your way in January - thank you so much for the detailed instructions!!

Another thank you to Brittany for leaving me a comment telling me that my comment word verification was still on.  LOL.  It has now been disabled - sorry about that!

Also - I am almost finished with the scrapbooks, but the pictures probably won't be up until later tonight or tomorrow.  Sorry for the holdup, but it's coming!

Bat Mitzvah Gift - Sneak Peak

I have been hard at work on some custom scrapbooks as gifts for twin girls who are about to celebrate their Bat Mitzvah.  I finally have all of the pages laid out, and thought I would give you a sneak peak before I started assembling.  The party theme is "Please Don't Stop the Music" and the colors are midnight blue and purple.  These pages in particular are for family pics, and don't incorporate the music theme.  You'll see how I worked that in on the other pages when I post the final project.  Fun fun!!

I was able to work in some tulle onto these pages, which ended up being my favorite part.  One thing I love about scrapbooking is that you can never make a mistake.  When I was punching the holes to stick the brads through the flowers, I noticed that my punch made little divots in the edges of the cream paper.  So, I just went with it and distressed the edges of the paper - mistake hidden AND I think it actually added a little something that was missing.

Till tomorrow!  I am praying that I can show you the final product - hope they are done by then!  I have to take Addie to kindergarten registration tomorrow, so my post may be later in the day than usual.

Project Overload!

Hey everyone!  I am officially on project overload - holy crow!  I have to apologize for my lack of posting lately - it's not because I am not working on anything for sure - just been so head down I haven't had much time to blog.  All of this needs to be completed by the end of the week (and I may be forgetting something) - I need a new to-do list!!

And on top of that, last Friday I decided to take a trip to this awesome antique store in town.  I have been searching high and low for an antique round pedastal table and chairs for my kitchen, and low and behold I found one!  It needs a bit of work, but hubby and I started sanding the table yesterday.  I'm in the process of redecorating my kitchen, and the table was the starting point for me.  It's so cool - I can't wait to share progress pics - but that project needs to go on the back burner for a few weeks I think.  

However - in the pursuit of the perfect paint color for my kitchen, I came across a new (and fabulous) blog!  You have to check out Favorite Paint Colors blog - it rocks!!  Kristin has the best collection of paint and room inspiration - it's like a one stop decorating haven from all of my favorite bloggers!!  This is my inspiration kitchen - love this from For the Love of a House:

Welcome Anne from Wobisobi - My Very First Guest Blogger!!!

Hey Everyone, 
I am Anne from the Blog, Wobisobi. Jenn, here at Social Salutations,~ and the most talented DIY'er,~ has asked me to be a guest on her beautiful blog. I was so excited when she asked me to do this because, coming over to Jenn's place to craft, is a great way to spend the afternoon. My Blog, Wobisobi, is kind of a style, meets craft, meets Re-Style, kind of place and I love to find cool things in fashion and recreate them with a lot less money.  Let's face it~  saving money, when you can, always helps.~ Today,  I am going to show you how I made this, oh so fun, feather purse from a $5.00 feather duster, a purse, and some hot glue.   Sound fun?   Well let's go do it. 


I did a little research first and found that the great, Jenn Radosevich of the I Spy DIY Blog 
did one, also Keira from the awesome blog A Pretty Penny, did this cool feather clutch. 
First, I  purchased my very own feather duster for the grand total of $5.00.  I already had a brown suede purse that I receive from E, my researcher ( Thank you E:), and I pulled out my trusty Hot Glue Gun! (oh how I love that thing.).  This craft was really fun to me and.. super easy,  and all I  needed was some quiet time with my favorite music and a little space to sort though my feathers. 

Well...Lets get started.

Tutorial

Things you Need
1. Feather Duster, Or Feathers
2. Hot Glue Gun
3. Some Velvet Ribbon or Something to go across the top of the purse to cover the quills
4. Old Purse you want to Re-Style
5. Good music to listen to and Patience

I sorted my feathers by size.

I put a line of hot glue and worked in 2 inch sections, so I could take my time.  I also made sure to line up my feathers across the bottom to make them even.

After I place all the feathers down, I trimmed the top quills, and checked to see if any of feathers were loose and needed to be glued down in different spots.

Then I cut a piece of left over leather, and used it to trim the top and cover the quills, you could also use some pretty ribbon.


And Taaa Daaaa!

All done!

So excited to take this little baby out.

Spring Wreath

The other night Hubby, Addie and I went for a walk around the neighborhood.  I was admiring everyone's spring decorations, when it hit me!  I never made a spring wreath!!  I was so consumed with decorating my mantle for spring that I completely forgot.  I have a million things going on - orders and working on stuff for my sister's baby shower - but I can put all that aside to throw together a quick wreath, right?  Of course!!  So that's what I did.  Our house is a like an army green color, so I knew that yellow was my color of choice.  I have had the same spring wreath for about 9 years now, and the flowers were way faded on it - it had definitely seen better days.  So - I removed everything from the wreath except for some yellow flowers that were still in good shape.  Then I quickly made some rosettes and burlap flowers and I was done.  I did, however, burn the living daylights out of my fingers with my hot glue gun.  Oh well - that's what I get for rushing I guess.  LOL.

That's it - quick and easy!  Now I have to go nurse my crafting wounds...

I Heart These Custom Door Signs

Hello hello!!  Wow - what a beautiful day we have here today!  The high is 81 degrees, and there is a beautiful cool breeze and not a cloud in the sky.  My house feels like a wind tunnel because I have all of the windows open - but I LOVE it!  You know what else I love?  These cutey patuty door signs I made for a friend of mine.  She called me awhile back and asked if I could make her some custom name signs to hang on her children's doors.  I had never made these before, but you know me - always up for a challenge!!

I started by paying her a visit (and playdate for our daughters who have been friends since they were in the womb - literally - they are 3 weeks apart).  She had just had all of their rooms re-decorated and wanted signs that reflected the new design.  I toured the new rooms - which are adorable, and took some inspiration pictures to help me with color and theme matching.

Savannah - the oldest - has a colorful butterfly theme, and her palladium window treatment was the perfect inspiration for her sign.

Her door sign has a little extra whimsy - I added some dimension by popping the butterfly wings off the frame.

Lucas - her middle child (and only boy) - has a safari theme.  Super cute and I love the color palette - greens, browns and a bright orange.  I used his hamper as my inspiration:

His sign incorporates the animal theme and color palette.  I didn't want to use ribbon to hang his, so I added some twine instead.

The baby - Brooke - has beautiful room with light yellow and bright pink (my colors of the moment, LOL).  I used her window treatments a well, which has butterflies and ladybugs.  I chose to go with the ladybugs since her big sister has the butterflies.

I was able to use some pink and white gingham paper to really pull though the design elements - and it came out so cute!

I can't wait for her to see them!!  I hope she loves them as much as I do!

Till tomorrow!!  I got sidetracked last night and ended up make a spring wreath for my front door.  Can't wait to share it!
