40th High School Reunion Invites

I am really excited about a new order I am working on right now.  This customer contacted me awhile back to design some 40th High School Reunion invitations for Ben Franklin Senior High School.  One of the design elements she requested was to somehow incorporate columns into the design.  The school had some pretty beautiful architecture, and keeping with that was very important to her.  It was a challenge, but I was up for it!

My original idea was to try to replicate the building's columns and frame the invitation with them.  Unfortunately, the columns were hard to match, so I needed a plan B.  I had done a little research on the school and was able to find an image of the building.  Using the actual black and white photo in the design wasn't really going to work, but I had another idea.  I decided to turn the image into a sketch and use it in the background of the invitation.

I am still finishing up the order.  I need to print the return address on the response card envelopes and package them all up.  I may add more photos later when they are all finished.

I absolutely LOVE fall and especially Halloween! So, when my friend Danielle asked me to design her daughter’s Halloween Costume Party birthday invitations - I was more than happy to oblige! Danielle told me that she really wanted to make them together with her daughter.  What I delivered was a sample and the pre-cut, scored and printed pieces, and then gave her the assembly instructions.  I thought it was a really cute idea for them to assemble them together - her daughter loves arts and crafts.  Who knows - maybe she’s a future paper crafter like me!  A girl after my own heart!!

Setting the Tone for Your Event

Save-the-Date Cards or Formal Invitations are the first impression your guests will have of your event, and will set the mood and expectation for everything to come.  Whether you’re having a wedding, birthday party or corporate event, it is important to keep a consistent theme.  Take your time with these components and start planning early, as this will probably be one of the first decisions you make.  

      Choosing a theme or color scheme does not have to be an agonizing task.  Think about a color or theme that best represents your personal style – this will make it easier to make decisions on the elements that will make your event.

      Are you laid back, energetic, outdoorsy, traditional?  Any of these personality traits can be turned into a theme or color combination.  You can also take into consideration the time of day that the event will take place.  For instance, if you are having an afternoon wedding, your theme would take a different twist than if you were planning an evening gala.

       Your paper suite (Save-the-Dates, Invitations, Response Cards, Programs, Escort Cards, Table Numbers, Menu, Favors and Thank You Cards) all should coordinate with whatever theme or color scheme you choose.

       Try choosing a logo, monogram or insignia to use on all of your communications and paper suite materials.  This makes it even easier to make everything cohesive.  Play with the design - try using the same element in different colors from your scheme – or even try using blown up or scaled down versions of the same design.  

       In the end – try not to stress over these decisions.  Look online for inspiration -  The Knot has some new and current color combinations that may spark some creativity!
