Baby Girl Scrapbook

Before I get started, I need to say that NATURE is out to GET ME!  As I was writing this post, I opened the front door to let the cat in, and a BIRD flew in the house!!!  I let out a blood curdling scream, and a "THERE'S A BIRD IN THE HOUSE - THERE'S A BIRD IN THE HOUSE"!!!  Hubby came running downstairs thinking there was an intruder.  He grabbed a towel and a box and went chasing after the bird.  It was flying from room to room, and I flew into the bathroom and locked myself in there!  Every time I peeked out, I saw Hubby running from room to room waving a towel - yelling for me to help - but I couldn't do it...and the bird would fly towards the door, and I would shut it as fast as I could.  Finally (after 15 minutes), hubby got smart and pinned the bird down under a tennis racket, scooped him up with the towel and set him free.  I am SUCH a chicken!!

OK - back to the post, sheesh - such excitement around here!!  So, awhile back I made a custom scrapbook for a baby girl, Zoe.  I wanted to go for more of a shabby chic look to go with the decor of the nursery.  I had a lot of fun with this, and added a lot of texture with tearing paper, velvet images, glitter, dry embossing and ink distressing.  The mom was so happy - and I was happy that she loved the custom gift!!

 Love this one - definitely one of my favorite projects ever!

Upcycling Some Tin Cans on Day 14!

I started this 30-Day challenge for numerous reasons, one of which was to tackle some much needed things that needed to be done around the house.  This leads me to today's project...


Addison has about a billion crayons, markers and pencils that tend to get scattered about - See Exhibit A:

(That New Moon cup - yeah that was mine - I admit it.  I love Twilight!!)  But anyway - that cup was used to store all most of her writing utensils.  Not a very organized system I know.  She usually ends up dumping them all out on the floor to find what she needs.


So today, I decided to put some old vegetable cans that I was saving to good use.  Since Addie is learning her letters and can now recognize her name, I wanted to make it somewhat educational. 


I wrote "Addison's Pencils", "Addison's Markers" and "Addison's Crayons" on some scrapbook paper that was designed to look like Kindergarten Ruled paper.  Then I wrapped the cans, and added some yarn around the center.  It still needed something after that, so I made a flower out of some felt, yarn, ribbon and a button.  

Super cute and now she can finally have a little bit of organization.  Plus, maybe now she can learn how to spell some new words!

I absolutely LOVE fall and especially Halloween! So, when my friend Danielle asked me to design her daughter’s Halloween Costume Party birthday invitations - I was more than happy to oblige! Danielle told me that she really wanted to make them together with her daughter.  What I delivered was a sample and the pre-cut, scored and printed pieces, and then gave her the assembly instructions.  I thought it was a really cute idea for them to assemble them together - her daughter loves arts and crafts.  Who knows - maybe she’s a future paper crafter like me!  A girl after my own heart!!

Setting the Tone for Your Event

Save-the-Date Cards or Formal Invitations are the first impression your guests will have of your event, and will set the mood and expectation for everything to come.  Whether you’re having a wedding, birthday party or corporate event, it is important to keep a consistent theme.  Take your time with these components and start planning early, as this will probably be one of the first decisions you make.  

      Choosing a theme or color scheme does not have to be an agonizing task.  Think about a color or theme that best represents your personal style – this will make it easier to make decisions on the elements that will make your event.

      Are you laid back, energetic, outdoorsy, traditional?  Any of these personality traits can be turned into a theme or color combination.  You can also take into consideration the time of day that the event will take place.  For instance, if you are having an afternoon wedding, your theme would take a different twist than if you were planning an evening gala.

       Your paper suite (Save-the-Dates, Invitations, Response Cards, Programs, Escort Cards, Table Numbers, Menu, Favors and Thank You Cards) all should coordinate with whatever theme or color scheme you choose.

       Try choosing a logo, monogram or insignia to use on all of your communications and paper suite materials.  This makes it even easier to make everything cohesive.  Play with the design - try using the same element in different colors from your scheme – or even try using blown up or scaled down versions of the same design.  

       In the end – try not to stress over these decisions.  Look online for inspiration -  The Knot has some new and current color combinations that may spark some creativity!

End of School Year Gifts

These are my favorite teachers gifts that I have done so far. This client is great – she always gives me free reign to put together some really cute designs. I had so much fun putting these together! The Post-It note holders are actually made from 5″ x 7″ acrylic frames so they will prop up on their desks. The goodie bags for the kids are filled with Smarties and have summer themed bag toppers. The colors were great for boys and girls – I had a little citrus inspiration. For more pics, check out my fan page on Facebook!

Thank You Cards

It’s here!!  My Scotch – the 3M 714 ATG. This thing is awesome!!  It is so easy – I already don’t know how I have survived this long without it.  I just finished a project in record time.  It even holds ribbon to paper – amazing.  Not only do I say farewell to my tacky tape, but I no longer need tape or glue runner, chipboard glue or glue dots.  I am in heaven!  
Thank you to my little birdie – you know who you are.  This was perfect timing because the next 2 months get very busy for me – lots of orders.  Ahh – I think I may have literally just gained back a year of my life from not having to use tacky tape again!

So, I have discovered that I have a Love-Hate relationship with tacky tape. If any of you are paper crafters, I am sure you relate to my experience. The stuff is awesome – it is super sticky and will hold together anything. I have decided, however, that it is not for use in big volume projects. 

Of course, in trying to be economical, I decided to get the wider tape and cut the strips in half to get 6 yards out of the 3 that came in the package. My good paper scissors are totally covered with glue, and are now sticking to all of my paper – lovely. The best part of course is that the little pieces of red plastic that cover the wonderful stickiness are now all over my house. The stuff is impossible to clean up! Once you peel the plastic off the glue, it becomes filled with static. Not cool when you are trying to put down the scissors, hold a different piece on each finger because you have just cut one long strip into 4, only to realize that you have red plastic stuck all over your hands and up your arms! The best part is when you have to clean up your pile of plastic strips off the table – just when you think you have gotten it all, you find a piece stuck to your leg, or in my case, your face! 

Here’s the silver lining to my red plastic cloud – I found a solution!! A little birdie told me about a product from Scotch – the 3M 714 ATG. It is a glue gun with a trigger that works like regular glue runner adhesive. It supposedly is stickier than tacky tape, a million times easier to use, and the glue rolls come in 36 yards! The glue gun itself is around $40, and the glue rolls are about $3.50 a piece. I think I have found my saving grace – I am ordering one today! So long sticky red tape – you are too tacky for me!!!
