It Can be Done - A Cartoon Character Birthday Party

With my daughter's birthday rapidly approaching, I realized that I need to start planning the party. This year she is torn between having a garden party and a roller skating party.  I think she is leaning more in the roller skating direction, but to be honest, the kid has never roller skated in her life.  She was invited to a skating party last summer, and was too scared to skate. I think I need to take her to do it first, before I start planning a party there.  I would hate to plan the whole thing to find out she hates it!

As I started thinking about this, I was looking through some pictures from last year.  I realized that that was pre-blog, so I decided to share some of the pictures with you.  The theme was somewhat difficult - she wanted a My Little Pony Picnic and Pool Party.  I'm not a big fan of cartoon character parties - but I know the kids love them, so I had to come up with a creative spin.  The Picnic part was actually my idea.  Our neighborhood pool is down by the lake, in which there is a lakeside pavilion.  I decided to have the party there - I thought it would be a beautiful backdrop for a picnic theme.

These were the invitations I designed, incorporating the MLP logo.

What's a summer party without pinwheels?  I made these out of paper, and inserted them into floral centerpieces on each of the tables.

The pavilion has a fireplace, so I made some paper bunting to drape across the mantle.

The favors I we gave were water bottles with lemonade packets tied to them.  I designed labels to coordinate with the theme, and displayed them in a picnic basket lined with red and white gingham fabric.  The kids loved them!!

Addison begged me to let her eat a cupcake before the party - I couldn't resist the birthday girl!!

Since I cannot bake, I ordered cupcakes from Publix.  I did, however, design cupcake toppers for the display.

The kids LOVED the pinwheels, and had an absolutely field day playing with them.

Since the pinwheels were such a huge hit, I decided to design the thank you cards to match, and lined the envelopes with coordinating paper.

It was a great party - everyone had a blast!  Now I have to figure out what to do this year!!
