Movie Star Party

Addison's party was a lot of fun, but that's not to say there weren't a few hiccups.  My fault entirely. I sent the invitations out, planning on showing the movie Rango.  That is, until my friend informed me a few days before that the movie had some adult language and quite a bit of violence.  Nice.  So - at the last minute, we had to change the movie.  That would have been all fine and good, except that I planned the party around a two hour movie, and the new movie was just over an hour.  Needless to say - we were done with the movie, cake and presents...with 50 minutes remaining before the parents came to pick up their kids.  Yikes!  We improvised, and played some games, and all in all - I think the kids had a great time!

When all of the guests arrived, I had set up a red carpet and logo backdrop for them to pose with Addison (I am planning to use the photos for the thank you cards).

We rented out the theater in my clubhouse, and I set up a table in the room with popcorn boxes for the kiddos.

The kids watched the movie, but I admit, we had a few adults standing guard in the hallway to corral them into the bathroom, and when they couldn't sit still....jeez.

Outside, I set up the table for the cupcakes and refreshments. I ordered plain white cupcakes from Publix, and decorated them with silver and gold metallic star sprinkles, and some cupcake toppers that I made.

The cupcakes were a hit - Addie obviously enjoyed them!!

For the favors, I bought some plastic popcorn boxes from the Dollar Tree and filled them with fruit snacks, a bag of microwave popcorn, and a movie star trophy.  I finished them off with a custom label for the occasion.

It was a hot day, but a great day.  We had a lot of fun, and for the most part, it went off without a hitch.  Happy 5th Birthday Sweet Girl!!

Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookie Jars

A customer came to me and asked for some Baby Shower game prizes.  I really thought about it, and wanted to do something cute, but significant.  Shower prizes are tough sometimes.  I came up with these homemade Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix Jars.  Raspberry, just cause they needed a little pink!  I went searching online and found a recipe that seemed easy enough.  I'm not a baker, but certainly I can put some ingredients in a jar, right? As a matter of fact, the last time I tried to make chocolate chip cookies, they looked like saggy old man butts!

Exhibit A - My Saggy Old Man Butt Cookies

The shower was a colorful polka dot theme, and I found this adorable fabric for the top the jars.  Then, I printed tags that read:  "Sugar and Spice and everything nice" - cause, you know - that's what little girls are made of!  Inside the tags, I printed the recipe on how to make the cookies.

Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookies Mix in a Jar

1 (3 ounce) box raspberry Jell-O
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour mixed with 1/2 teaspoon
baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Layer ingredients in jar in order given. Press each layer firmly in place before adding next ingredient.

Attach the following instructions on a gift card:

Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookies

Empty cookie mix in a large mixing bowl; stir to combine. Add 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 slightly beaten egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract; mix until completely blended. Roll heaping tablespoonsful into balls. Place 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 12 to 14 minutes or until tops are very lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on cookie sheet. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Yields 2 1/2 dozen.

Happy baking!!

Beach Themed Baby Shower

A few weeks ago, I made a bunch of decor for a baby shower that a friend of mine was throwing.  I love anything beach themed, so this was right up my alley!  She wanted more of a cottage-y look something relaxed - not too stuffy.  I designed food labels, favors, bunting, tissue paper pom-poms, flower centerpieces, and pulled together the whole look with burlap table runners.

Food Labels

I made two versions of the favors, which were pink and white beach balls.  I topped them with bag toppers that read:  "She's Ready To Pop".

I forgot to bring my camera when I went to help set up for the shower (duh!), but my friend was awesome, and sent me the pictures she took.

The bunting said "Congratulations" - I wish I would have taken a close-up before I brought it over there - it came out so cute!

Hope you are having a fabulous Monday!!

Sweets for the Birthday Boy!

Birthday party decor and favors don't have to be over the top.  Sometimes a simple idea goes a long way.  A few weeks ago a friend of mine asked me to design some bag toppers and labels for her son Elijah's birthday party.  He LOVES candy (what kid doesn't, right?), so she went with a sweets/cupcake theme.  She ordered a bunch of candy and some cupcake wrappers from Oriental Trading, and asked if I could coordinate the design with the wrappers.

I started with the cello bag toppers, which she wanted to be filled with Hershey's Kisses.  Because she was using paper bags, I decided to use kraft paper for the bag toppers.

These will then go inside of a paper sandwich bag filled with a ton of other candy and sealed with a label.

Don't they all look so cute in the box??

I am off to deliver them now - then I need to rush to get ready, cause we have a birthday party to attend!!

Have a fabulous weekend!!
